Day 58...Life beckons, choose wisely - 23rd August

Woke up coming down with something. My whole body was aching and sore. (and no, it wasn't a hangover). Had breakky and drove out of Berlin, straight towards Bremen. Nathan drove most of the way while I ached and snored. It was mainly dark, rainy farmland.

We got to Bremen and hunted for the street where Becks Brewery was, as we didn't have a town map. Bremen is also famous for the Brothers Grimm tale of the donkey, dog, cat and rooster that want to be musicians in Bremen or something. Nathan could smell the hops, it wafted over the whole town and drove him mad! We eventually found it though.

We thought we were 1/2 an hour late for the Becks tour, but ended up being right on time at 2pm. It was the day where there was a tour in english, which was a bonus for us, but there was no tour through the bottling plant (doh). We watched a promo about how Becks now has preservatives and is a big comglomeration (or thats the hidden message that Nate, myself and 2 english guys got anyway). We saw replica medals of their awards, and the usal jars of hops, wheat and barley. We were disappointed we couldn't see the plant, but it was good to try the local Becks and see where it was all made. We got to go into the Becks bar and drank several beers. They included the local Haake Becks (of which there were about 3 or 4) that aren't distributed outside the local area. Only locally. they were quity tasty! We chatted to two English lads, NIck and Dave who were a good sort. Outisde the brewery were saw they were offloading horsefood (thats what they do with the leftover stuff). I was still feeling sick so we went to the TIC and booked a cheap room at the Ibis Hotel. I basically laid in bed, then we went downstairs to their restaurant for dinner, then back to bed. Aahhh bed!
