Day 101...In old Napoli - NOT - 5th October

Got up, packed up and checked out. Did some internet stuff before sitting and waiting at our hotel for the airport shuttle, which was supposed to pick us up at 12pm. A long story short – 3 ½ hours later it picked us up. No apology – nothing. Typical Italian service. Lucky we didn’t have a flight! We were pretty pissed off (our hotel manager included – he fought with the company for us too, which was nice of him). We arrived at Europcar at the airport, and picked up a little Fiat Punto, shitbox extraordinaire. Apart from a reverse incident in the carpark, we were off and away to the southern coast. I t was late arvo, we’d had no lunch, so we had a quick Maccas meal and got stuck into driving. We bypassed Naples as its dodgy and dangerous. Everyone I’ve spoken to who has been to Naples has left post haste again! Shame for the birthplace of pizza, but what can you do? Right near Naples we got stuck in some traffic jams and crazy Italian driving. They are the worst of the Europeans by far! Every car has dings and scratches in it. And when they park, the cars actually touch.
We were planning to head for Sorrento, but realized we would have to drive back north if we wanted to see Pompeii. So we stopped at Pompeii there, after several hours driving into the evening. I jumped out of the car at several places and got some dialogue in Italian going with the hotels in regards to accommodation. Finally found a place that was pretty cute. The guy was watching some weird satanic horror movie, but the hotel was nice and clean, and in a good spot. We walked to dinner nearby for a quick meal as we were over today. Nathan had some nice fish and I had some veal. Then we went home for some bed!
