Day 9...Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas - 5th July

Was quite alarmed when I went to the bathroom this morning, then realised I had been drinking an electric blue drink all night last night. phew!

We've been quite surprised at the weather in Las Vegas over the last few days. Heavy electrical storm clouds keep blowing over the desert, but no rain in town at all (except once during the night). And it always seems to happen in the arvo - right when I want to sunbake and get rid of this Melbourne tan!

Anyways, we got up around 2pm (its quite good as we know how long we're in for a lifestyle like this so we are pacing ourselves - plus there's not much to do in Vegas during the day) and meandered over the the Venetian to the Grand Lux Cafe again, the only one that does excellent quality meals and salads without being hexy (pricey) and without being fast food. Then we headed to the Flamingo casinos pool as we read that they had pool parties on in the arvo. This casino is soooo Fear and Loathing right? Bad pink decor on the outside, fantastic neon pink lights and neon green palm trees on the inside. I expected to see giant lizards popping up everywhere! ("Look at that one over there! I think they've spotted us!!! I need some golf shoes...impossible to walk in this muck.")

We got to the pool which ended up being a hole in the ground with some obese people floating around inside. To our luck, we saw some dry ice floating over the garden and some really loud music and went to investigate - and around the corner was a massive pool with deck chairs, and pool beds and a big fake waterfall and stuff. It was two for one cocktails and beer so we drank all arvo and sat by the pool. The stupid electrical storm decided to put in an appearance again, so there was no sun, but the day was so warm and it didn't rain.

That night we headed out to Tangerine in Treasure Island as it is also like "so hot right now" and does a bit of burlesque which I like. However we didn't get in as Nate didn't fit the shoe requirements so we had some dinner in the casino and entertained ourselves by counting off the number of hideously obese people vs. the yankee guys who wear baseball caps. It ended up being 12 to 10 I think, with the fat tamales coming off first. It's not a bad effort for the baseball cap wearing idiots though, considering it was late at night eh?

On the way back home, I decided to use my 'lucky' chip. Hows this for what I thought was fate!? I had a $5 chip in my bag from Circus Circus since I was last here 2 years ago (you'll remember that well Kristin haha!) It's been floating around in my bag ever since so it started t obuilt up a magical "when I come back to Vegas..." aura about it. So on the way back to the room I fished it out and slapped it down on black. The roulette wheel spun around and I was thinking "yesss...yess...it's meant to be dammit" when it landed on red. Crap! I should have cashed it in and used the money. We are on such a fine budget at the moment that he once tromped all the way around the casino teget our money back when the vending machine ate our $1 for water.

Anyways, I sulked, bought a Krispy Kreme doughnut (they're actually pretty good) and went to bed around 1-2ish.
