Day 63...If she weighs as much as a duck, she's made of wood and A WITCH!!! 28th August

Woke up early and had our breaky watching our lady host strut around in her eyeliner. We headed off to the car, but the tram system was tricky and shit and ended up being a nightmare. We had stops shown on our map, but then they didn't have the line go past there! So gay. We ended up somewhere out of town, walked to the train station, saw some guy get roughed by the cops, weren't sure where to get on the train - so we chucked the sads and caught a cab and ended up leaving by late morning instead of early.

We drove south to Oudewater, a small town thats famed for (Monty Python fans would be familiar with this routine) weighing women to see if they're witches. I was so excited and had been talking about it forever as I love that skit. But the place was closed on Mondays!!! Of all days! I was so disappointed!! Very upsetting. But perhaps its best that I didn't get myself weighed. Some things are best left a mystery...

Oudewater was a cute little town, but I was cranky and I didn't want to stay so we set off again. I cheered up quickly tho, as there's nought much one can do is there? Country Holland was very green, very wet and very cute. Lots and lots of little farms and villages that have manmade waterways surrounding them. Most of the waterways have a bright green algae on them (looks nice, not unhealthy) so everything has an extra green tone to it. We saw a few windmills on the way too. We were aiming for Kinderdijk which is a World heritage sight. You would't know it though, as its such a bitch to get there! But we finally managed, and had a look see. Kinderdijk has 19 big windmills but we couldn't find a way down there, so we took some photos from the road. There's not much to do there apart from look at them, so we headed down into Belgium.

Going to Belgium was such a short drive, and we ended up staying the night in Antwerp. Antwerp will be a really nice place to stay by next year. The roads and buildings were old-school and windy and you could have lots of fun getting lost exploring them. But most of Antwerps major sites and roads are going through heavy restoration so you have to pick your way through construction zones at the moment. After getting a bit lost, and not being able to find the TIC due to the roadworks, we called a place from the Lonely Planet book and got a great deal for 44 bucks in town. It ended up being a triple room but we only got charged for a double. It was in an old (160 years) building and we were at the top of the rickety, drunken leaning stairs. We seem to be on the top floor of every place we stay. We also wonder, combined with all the towers and castles we're climbing, how many spiral staircases we will do in our trip! Our hotel room had a shared bathroom and toilet but it served the trick.

We walked around Atwerp for a bit, enjoying the grey evening sky. A lovely dinner was had in a little restaurant that was cosy and cute. An old widow sat silently next to us not eating, and we watched her polish off 3 pints while we were there. Respect.

Dinner, beer, wine, bed. Cheers!
