Day 109...Attack of the Clones - 13th October

Slept in, then packed up and left our bags at the hotel. Spent the morning photographing the fabulous little streets . Oh - first thing though, when I went outside to get some cash out - I bumped into a little old Greek man with his donkey laden with groceries! I was so excited, I raced back to the hotel, grabbed the camera and nearly bumped into him on the way back! He was really sweet and posed for me. Awww. I had seen pictures of the donkeys that bring fruit and veges into town on postcards, but hadn't seen one yet. So I was really excited.

Later in the day we picked up our bags, and lugged them to the ferry and waited to board. I was thoroughly entertained there tho - there was an exact replica of dad, but several years older! It was eerie! I strolled up to him, pretended there was something wrong with my camera and took off about 8 shots of him! Fabulous!

We boarded the ferry at 2pm and got a nice 4 seater booth. However an annoying couple joined us when it docked at another island - they made us move our bags and sat on the other two seats next to us. We wouldn't have minded so much, except forbar the fact that they curled up asleep all over us, AND took off their shoes and their feet STANK. I complained loudly about them, which was fun because they didn't understand what I was saying. Sometimes not understaning anyone in a country has its bonuses. We were on the ferry till aroun d8.30pm til we arrived at Piraus. Then we had to catch 2 different trains to get to our hostel in the centre of Athens. Athens is sooo expensive! It was cheaper for us to pay for a bed each in a hostel, so we did that.

From the train station, we legged it alittle way, through busy little streets. The hostel was located in Plaka - close to the sites. It used to be the old Turkish quarter and has narrow, labryinthtine streets in the north eastern slope of the Acropolis. There are lots of tourist shops but it is the livelist part of Athens. Our hostel room was a 3 bedder, so we only had to share with one other guy. He was some weird geology student or something. We ate at the restaurant downstairs. The food was good, the service shit. The greeks aren't good on their hospitality either, but catch them out of work and they are delightful. Had some weird greek dishes, some wine and headed to bed.
